Engineering in the US:

SAT 

The SAT is a standardized test for most college admissions in the United States. SAT consists of three major sections: Critical Reading, Mathematics, and Writing. Each section receives a score on the scale of 200–800. All scores are multiples of 10. Total scores are calculated by adding up scores of the three sections. Each major section is divided into three parts. There are 10 sub-sections, including an additional 25-minute experimental or “equating” section that may be in any of the three major sections. The experimental section is used to normalize questions for future administrations of the SAT and does not count toward the final score. The test contains 3 hours and 45 minutes of actual timed sections;[9] most administrations (after including orientation, distribution of materials, completion of biographical sections, and fifteen minutes of timed breaks) run for about four and a half hours. The questions range from easy, medium, and hard depending on the scoring from the experimental sections. Easier questions typically appear closer to the beginning of the section while harder questions are toward the end in certain sections. This is not true for every section (the Critical Reading section is in chronological order) but it is the rule of thumb mainly for math, grammar, and the 19 sentence completions in the reading sections.

ACT:

The ACT (an abbreviation of American College Testing)

The required portion of the ACT is divided into four multiple choice subject tests: English, mathematics, reading, and science reasoning. Subject test scores range from 1 to 36; all scores are integers. The English, mathematics, and reading tests also have subscores ranging from 1 to 18. (The subject score is not the sum of the subscores.) The composite score is the average of all four tests. In addition, students taking the writing test receive a writing score ranging from 2 to 12, a combined English/writing score ranging from 1 to 36 (based on the writing score and English score), and one to four comments on the essay from the essay scorers. The writing score does not affect the composite score.

Top Engineering Entrance Exams in India

AIEEE:

The most popular among engineering examinations in India, thousands of students appear for this examination. Approximately 27000 seats are available for several engineering colleges if not the IITs. 

Seats: Approximately 27000

Exam Pattern: Objective type questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Eligibility: 10+2 with at least 50% marks. Candidates aspiring for Architecture, for them Mathematics is a compulsory subject.

Institutes: 30 NIT (NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal etc.)

BITSAT:

It is an online objective type test for the engineering courses offered by the Birla Institutes of Technology located in several campuses across India. The exam is usually held for a month and is considered simpler than AIEEE and IIT-JEE.

Exam Pattern: objective type, multiple choice questions carrying 3 marks each. The number of questions is 150.

Eligibility: Completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics

Institute: Birla Institutes of Technology across India.
